Vehicles / Safety

Safety comes first.

Understand crash protection, driver assistance, and the independent ratings that matter when choosing an electric vehicle.

Crash-test ratings

Ratings vary by model, model year, and market. Check the independent test results for the exact vehicle you are considering rather than relying on a single rating for every EV.

Driver assistance

Autopilot features can assist with steering, speed, and following distance where equipped. They do not make the vehicle autonomous: the driver must remain attentive, keep control, and be ready to intervene at all times.

Passive protection

Electric-vehicle design can make room for energy-absorbing structures, a low-mounted battery, a rigid passenger compartment, seat belts, and airbags. Equipment and performance differ by model.

Check a specific crash rating

Search by year, make, and model on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. No blanket score is claimed for the vehicles on this site.
